23783 review-service-good-went-valentine-day service-good-went-valentine-day http://www.ristorantedoria.feedback/review-service-good-went-valentine-day 10 10 10 0 0 0 Service: Good! I went on Valentine's day so it was packed as you can imagine. Service was still pretty fast and I think we were in and out within 1.5 hours. Ambiance: Good! Low lighting, but not high-classy-fancy type. Small and home-y, with a very authentic feel (I could even hear the people yelling in Italian from the kitchen). Food: Amazing! Extremely good food. I got the Gnocchi ai Quattro formaggi and it was probably the best Gnocchi I've had in Seattle (both pasta and sauce). Got Doria's Tiramisu for desert and it was amazing as well. Price: Good! Well priced, especially for the fact that the food was so good. Easily worth every penny. Uniqueness: Great! I would say this is one of the best kept secrets in the University District and maybe all of Seattle. I live pretty close and I'm always surprised to not see the restaurant packed every night, especially since they have a pretty good happy hour. Haven't been back for awhile but definitely planning on going again soon. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Service: Good! 23780 review-real-deal-right-heart-district real-deal-right-heart-district http://www.ristorantedoria.feedback/review-real-deal-right-heart-district 10 10 10 0 0 0 The real deal, right in the heart of the U District. Food reminds me of the best of the North End in Boston -- hearty, flavorful, and authentic. Both the puttanesca and gnocchi were fantastic. Portions were generous. Wine selection was good. Kids menu is substantial. Mood, especially when the pianist is in house, is absolutely charming. Only ding is that service, while friendly, is a bit slow. Especially with kids in tow, that can be a real challenge. Still our favorite family Italian joint in Seattle though.
The real deal, right in the heart of the U District. Food reminds me of the best of the North End in Boston – hearty, flavorful, and authentic. Both the puttanesca and gnocchi were fantastic. Portions were generous. Wine selection was good. Kids menu is substantial. Mood, especially when the pianist is in house, is absolutely charming. Be sure to order from the happy hour menu or ask for the happy hour menu. The dishes are nice and big for happy hour. They don't skimp on the portions for sure! One thing I wish they'd do is free bread and olive oil, but it's only $1.50 on the happy hour menu, so not that big of a deal. Service: Decent. However, they can be super slow getting the check, especially if there aren't a lot of people in the restaurant. I guess that's part of the charm. We had two waiters try to give us the check or take the credit card for processing. Needless to say, the service is there, just coordination might need some work. Ambiance: As soon as you enter, you don't feel like you're in the U-District at all. In fact, you don't feel like you're on 50th and Roosevelt, which is technically still part of the U-District. No, it feels like you're in Capitol Hill or Queen Anne. The interior decoration is amazing. It is quite dark, so it's not the best place to take photos, but because it's so dark, it's quite romantic. Credit card: I believe they take American Express. Overall: Neighborhood gem, one of the best-kept secrets.
If you come here between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. on any day, it’s happy hour. 23786 review-fabulous-local-italian-restaurant-best fabulous-local-italian-restaurant-best http://www.ristorantedoria.feedback/review-fabulous-local-italian-restaurant-best 10 10 10 0 0 0 What a fabulous local Italian restaurant! This was some of the best homemade gnocchi that I've ever had - light & fluffy. Everything from the salad to the crab bisque was great & they accommodated our little ones palette too. The food was very obviously made with love & attention to detail & I don't know how the service could have been better. The singing piano player in the corner added just the right ambience for a fun evening. Great spot to hit for a reasonably priced night out. It was serendipitous that we found this sweet restaurant in the U district.
What a fabulous local Italian restaurant! This was some of the best homemade gnocchi that I’ve ever had - light & fluffy. I've not tried the gnocchi that everyone is raving about, but the rigatoni Bolognese, while simple and traditional is delicious and my favorite dish there. I've also enjoyed the prawn appetizer in spicy tomato broth (hold the spice, which they did by my request) and the eggplant with goat cheese, carmelized onions and pine nuts. My mom was over the other day and I got these dishes for take out. Another New Yorker impressed. The bisque of the day has proven very good each time I've tried it. Happy hour is a deal. $7.50 for a good sized, yet manageable for one plate of the rigatoni Bolognese and I think my wine was $4 or $5 for the glass. This makes for a wonderful early dinner! Service is great. The waiter that always seems to be there is polite, pleasant, efficient and helpful with wine selection. The owner/chef often comes out and greets the customers. This place is quiet and romantic as well and would be great for dates. This is my go to place for traditional homestyle Italian.
One gal said things were bland and unexciting or “unexperimental.” No offense to her, but she doesn’t know her true Italian food. I’m from NY and I’ve traveled to Italy. I know my good Italian and this is it. Good Italian is homestyle, like mama would make and is not supposed to contain a bunch of random “experimental” stuff. Yeah, stick to your Seraphina, lady. Leave the good stuff for us.
